The authors have historically come across surgeries that were apparently straightforward, but where the heart struggled to recover, with patients needing high doses of inotropes, long stays in the intensive care unit, and all sorts of supports. This video provides one possible explanation for potential causes of the heart struggles. The authors hope that by providing this lecture, trainees and other interested parties will be better prepared to handle related questions.
