This young patient had his aortic dissection missed on multiple occasions. First, he experienced classic symptoms described in this video. He then underwent a CT angiogram and 3D reconstruction that missed the large dissection cavity. Finally, he was identified as having this large abnormality but was unable to undergo the complex surgery in his home country, Ghana. A surgical team from the UK collaborated with Dr. Baffoe Gyan and his team at the University of Ghana Medical Center to perform the surgery.

In this video, CTSNet Editor in Chief Joel Dunning talked to the patient and then the surgeon about the preoperative plan. The camera then joined the surgical team and Dr. Andy Owens talked the audience through the operation, including uncovering the large dissection cavity and the dissection flap into the aorta from this cavity. He completed the operation with an interposition tube graft and the patient was discharged five days after surgery.
